Academics while Abroad

While everything about study abroad is hard to generalize, academics are the hardest. Studying abroad classes differ not just by hemisphere, region and country, but even in the same University two academic programs will be strikingly different. Just like Universities in the US some professors will be more difficult than others. Some people find their classes while abroad are incredibly easy, others find them to be nearly impossible.

The best thing to do is not worry about it too much. While studying abroad you will be learning much more outside the classroom than in it (seriously). Chances are you will become better at speaking a foreign language by spending your evenings in a local bar than spending your entire day in the classroom.

Find out if your grades transfer back to your school. Some schools will count the grades as pass/fail or won’t count them in your GPA. If you are worried about your study abroad grades talk to an academic advisor and/or a study abroad advisor at your school before you go. Trust us, while you’re abroad the last thing you want to worry about is whether you got a B or a B+ on a test.
